Spring Home & Outdoor Living Expo

Spring is a time to refresh the mind, whip the body into shape and get out and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Spring Home Show, presented by The Daytona Beach News-Journal at the Ocean Center on Friday, March 30, to Sunday, April 1, 2012, is an opportunity to find out what's going on the world of home decorating and outdoor fun. Whether you've got a 40-foot deck or a 5-foot entry pad, you can create a spot that makes you smile by using a little bit of color, time and imagination.

Vendors at this expo offer their latest products for your home, many with items that can help your indoor and outdoor living go "green."

The three-day show features hundreds of exhibits of home improvement products and services, outdoor living amenities such as swimming pools and spas, and local businesses and nonprofit agencies showcasing their services.

Jessica Fox, News-Journal events marketing manager, said this year’s show features more products for outdoor living than past shows.

She expects about 10,000 people to visit the show.

That’s good news for Steve LoPresti, of Custom Storm Shutters. This is the fourth year the Ormond Beach firm has participated in the show, he said.

He keeps coming back because the event provides ready access to potential customers. “In order to get business, you’ve got to be in the presence of people, ” LoPresti said.

The expo allows people to explore options for home improvements they might not even have known were on the market, he said.

A lot of area homeowners rushed to add storm shutters after the very active 2004 hurricane season, he said, when choices were often limited because of the demand. Now, he said, some homeowners are interested in better products to protect their windows.

“We have people constantly upgrading, ” he said.

During daily seminars, you can learn from experts about living more "green" and how to care for your septic tank or find out the latest in gardening. Get organized (that's right, tackle your closet space or restyle your home!). Listen to just how simple "living simply" can be. Sit in a session on "waterwise landscaping," make life more organized in the kitchen or get tips on selling your home.

Take a day or three out of your busy schedule and get some ideas on how to enjoy your life in the "green."
